Hearing Test in NYC.

A good hearing test is the foundation of good hearing care. At Pinnacle Audiology we take the time to measure how you hear, explain the results in clear terms, and help you understand what they mean for your daily life.

Diagnostic Hearing Test

Comprehensive evaluation · NYC

  • Full diagnostic hearing evaluation
  • Clear explanation of your results
  • Personalized next-step recommendations

A clear baseline that guides every hearing care decision that follows.

What we evaluate

A comprehensive look at how you hear.

We combine objective findings with what you tell us about your daily listening challenges, so the results reflect your real life, not just numbers on a chart.

01

Across the pitches

We measure how you hear across a range of pitches to build a full picture of your hearing.

02

Speech understanding

We assess how well you understand speech, including in the situations where listening is hardest.

03

Ear health

We examine how your ears are functioning physically so nothing important is missed.

SCREENING VS. EVALUATION

A comprehensive evaluation, not just a screening.

A quick screening tells you whether you pass or fail. A comprehensive diagnostic hearing evaluation goes much further.

Free or quick screenings are useful as a first check, but they only flag whether something might be wrong. A full diagnostic evaluation with a doctor of audiology measures how you hear across the range of pitches that matter for speech, how clearly you understand words in quiet and in noise, and how your ears are functioning physically. The result is a detailed audiogram you can actually act on, paired with honest guidance about what it means for your everyday life.

WHEN TO SCHEDULE

Signs it may be time for a test.

If any of these sound familiar, an evaluation can tell you what is actually happening.

Everyday listening

You turn the TV up, ask people to repeat themselves, or struggle to follow conversation in restaurants and noisy rooms.

Ringing or fullness

You notice ringing or buzzing in your ears, or a sense of pressure or fullness that does not fully clear.

Risk factors

You are over 50, have a family history of hearing loss, or have spent years around loud sound at work, concerts, or on stage.

Your visit

What to expect, step by step.

If you find yourself turning up the volume, asking people to repeat themselves, or struggling in noisy rooms, an evaluation can tell you what is actually happening.

A conversation first

We start with your history and the situations where hearing is hardest, then examine your ears.

Results

Plain-language results

We sit down and explain the results clearly, show what they mean day to day, and outline recommended next steps.

YOUR RESULTS

Understanding your audiogram.

The audiogram is the chart we use to show how you hear. It looks technical, but it is simple once it is explained.

Pitch runs from low to high across the chart, and loudness runs from soft at the top to loud at the bottom. Where your results fall shows the softest sounds you can hear at each pitch, which tells us a great deal about how you experience speech and everyday sound. We walk through every part of it with you in plain language, so you leave understanding not just the numbers, but what they mean for the conversations and moments that matter most to you. If hearing aids would help, we can show how the right settings map directly to your results.

NEXT STEPS

What happens after your hearing test.

You leave with clear results the same day and a no-pressure discussion of what, if anything, to do next.

If hearing aids would help

We talk through your options and how modern devices fit your results and your life. Learn more about hearing aids.

If you hear ringing

When tinnitus is part of the picture, a focused next step helps. See our tinnitus evaluation.

If a baseline is enough

Sometimes the best result is simply a clear baseline to monitor over time. Prefer to be seen at home? We offer at-home audiology.

FAQ

Hearing test questions.

A typical evaluation includes a review of your history and concerns, an examination of your ears, and a series of listening tasks that measure how you hear different pitches and speech. We then explain what the results mean in plain language.

Most comprehensive evaluations take about an hour, including time to review your results and discuss next steps. We do not rush the conversation about what the findings mean for you.

You can bring a list of your concerns, any current hearing aids, and, if possible, someone who knows your hearing well. Note the situations where listening is hardest so we can focus on what matters most to you.

Yes. We review your results with you during the same visit, explain what they show, and outline any recommended next steps so you leave with a clear understanding.

Periodic evaluations are still helpful, because hearing can change over time. Updated results allow us to confirm whether your current settings and devices still match your needs.

Most patients can book directly without a referral. Some insurance plans do require one, so it is worth checking with your plan, and we can help you sort that out before you come in.

A screening is a quick pass-or-fail check. A comprehensive evaluation with a doctor of audiology measures how you hear across pitches, how well you understand speech, and how your ears are functioning, producing a full audiogram you can act on.

We explain your results in plain language the same day and discuss your options with no pressure. Depending on what we find, that may mean simply monitoring over time, exploring hearing aids, or a referral when something medical should be looked at.
